Our Memorial Campus

opmFirst, the aging CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial will be replaced with a modern, community-based family health care center, named for Corpus Christi physician and activist Dr. Hector P. Garcia.

The first Mexican-American to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Dr. Garcia had an intense concern for the health and welfare of the poor people of South Texas and he fought for half a century for the civil and educational rights of Mexican-Americans. This facility will honor his memory and recognize the special bond and history that have long existed between Memorial Hospital and Corpus Christi residents.

The concept of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center is the embodiment of health care in the future – placing an emphasis on proactive wellness. With 75 percent of today’s health care dollars spent on the treatment of chronic illnesses – many of which are preventable – patients receiving care at the center will be empowered and encouraged to make better choices, live healthier lives and effectively manage their health.

This full-service, family-focused primary care clinic offers an appropriate and comfortable setting where primary and preventative treatments are provided for chronic diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. The primary care team emphasizes provision of continuous care across all aspects of the healthcare system. The center includes a chapel to help fulfill the spiritual needs of our patients as we continue our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Providing easy access to this primary care facility has reduced non-emergency visits to our hospital system’s emergency departments, lowering costs and increasing operating efficiencies.
