Mobile Community Outreach aboard the CHRISTUS Spohn CareVan
The CHRISTUS Spohn Care Van mobile unit provides free health services to the underserved and uninsured in our South Texas community. The CareVan is staffed by a dedicated group of healthcare providers — a nurse practitioner, registered nurses, community health worker, medical assistants, transporters and volunteers from various professional backgrounds to provide much-needed services.
Many nonprofit organizations partner with the CareVan to expand access to care. With this community collaboration, the CareVan was able to provide more than 1,300 flu immunizations in 2014.
CHRISTUS Spohn CareVan – Women’s Services
The CareVan travels throughout South Texas and the Coastal Bend, providing free women’s services and prenatal care to uninsured women. Women who are receiving prenatal care will be referred to a physician or clinic in their seventh month of pregnancy for continuing care. This unique vehicle takes our Mission of Healing and Message of Wellness to the uninsured and underserved.
Services provided are: physical exams, pap smears, breast exams, sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and prenatal care.
Locations of service are Mathis, Taft, Corpus Christi, Bishop and Aransas Pass.
In the past year, the Women’s Services clinical team has served more than 1,200 individuals.
To schedule an appointment for any location Monday through Thursday, call 361-877-3547.
